Intro
Welcome to my webpage! My name is Tereza Janáčková and I am a professional conference interpreter and translator with ten years of experience. For me, interpreting is not just a job, but a true vocation. The diversity and variety of assignments enables me to keep pace with the ever-changing world. I consider every interpreting assignment unique and prepare for each and every one of them with utmost care. Thus, I keep learning and developing my skills every single day.

Qualification
I studied English language and literature BA and MA programmes at Masaryk University in Brno. During my studies I enrolled in several translation courses and made my very first steps towards a professional career.
Subsequently, I studied a postgraduate course called European Masters in Conference Interpreting at Charles University in the Czech capital Prague. Besides the theoretical aspects of interpretation, this course places a great emphasis on practical consecutive and simultaneous interpreting training (mock conferences etc).
I also successfully completed a two-semester Legal English course for interpreters and translators at the life-long learning centre JURIDIKUM of Charles University in Prague.

Foreign traineeships and stays abroad
In 2008 I studied at Jaime I University in Castellon de la Plana in Spain under the Erasmus learning mobility programme. Since then, I keep regularly coming back to gain new knowledge and meet old friends.
As a part of the EMCI course I spent a week stay as a trainee interpreter in the European institutions in Brussels, Belgium, and a week stay at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. In both instances I underwent an intensive dummy booth practice.
sworn interpreter and translator
As of July 2023, I got registered in the list of sworn interpreters and translators kept by the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic. Therefore, I am entitled to translate official documents from English to Czech and vice versa for institutions such as courts, notaries, register offices or insurance companies. I have sworn both as translator and interpreter and thus I can also interpret in these institutions.

Work experience
I interpret large-scale conferences (e.g. High-speed railways at the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic) as well as more intimate meetings (e.g. the writer Robert Fulghum meeting his readers). As far as simultaneous interpreting is concerned it is mostly company conferences such as Kinsgpan, Tchibo, Unilever.
In the case of consecutive interpreting, it is mostly business meetings, professional consultants and advisor´s visits, industry conference presentations, university education and trainings in companies. I also interpret in-situ in production plants (paper making, dairy production, packaging materials, dental products or at building sites (construction of halls, warehouses, shopping malls refurbishment).
I translate texts in the fields of law, sociology, psychology, history, lifelong learning and marketing. These are often contracts, professional tertiary education texts, websites, exhibition descriptions, company newsletters and instruction booklets.

Private lessons
Provided that I am not busy interpreting and translating, I also offer practical conversational English and Spanish lessons. In terms of specialized English education, I taught a legal English course and a CAE course for young adults, who gained their secondary school qualifications.
Referrals
It has been my privilege to have worked with Tereza Janáčková since 2005, when she was a Gymnazium student in Hradec Králové. She has worked with us, on part time basis, almost every year since then, as interpreter, translator, and guide. Mostly she has helped English speaking visitors to understand the people they met in small towns and villages throughout the Czech Lands. She has also helped us with our Spanish speaking visitors. I cannot compliment her enough for her personal and good-natured approach toward others.
